Getting to know RRAFA
Thank you for your interest in knowing more about River Ridge Association of Fine Arts (RRAFA). The following is a summary of what you need to know should you choose to become a member:
MEETINGS: Our meetings are on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. except the November & December meetings when we meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
LOCATION: All meetings are at Spokane Art Supply, 1303 N. Monroe, Spokane, WA.
PROGRAMS: We have guest artists, members, and others who instruct and/or share their ideas and/or demonstrations. Most months members are given a “challenge” to bring to a subsequent meeting, such as producing a piece of art using only one color.
VENUES: We have arranged with various locations in the Spokane area to allow our members to show their work. Members support RRAFA by paying a 10% commission on art sold at these venues. The RRAFA commission is waived when the venue charges a commission. Each Venue has a RRAFA member as a curator. You may contact the curator to be put on a list to show your work at any of the Venues. SHOWS: We generally have at least one major show each year. These events require many member volunteers. Sometimes this is a member only show and other times it is open to the public. Juror, cash prizes, and fee for the show site are paid from participant entry fees. Members must attend at least two regular membership meetings in order to participate in these shows. To enter a juried RRAFA membership show or exhibit at RRAFA venues, members must attend two member meetings in the current calendar year and dues must be paid.
WEBSITE: Please explore our website. We try to maintain all pages with current information. Officers and Board members, meeting dates, venue locations and coordinators, news, minutes, etc. are all on the website and we try to keep the pages up to date. You can learn more about our members by visiting “Our Artists". All members are encouraged to take advantage of the website to post a bio page and share their art online, a biography and any contact information they would like shared with the public. We have had members sell work over the website and help our Treasury with a 10% commission.
Should you decide to become a member of RRAFA you will be able to access the “Members Only” page and create your own login information with email and personal password. Once approved you will be able to access the page.
SPOKANE ART SUPPLY DISCOUNT as a member of RRAFA, you would be eligible for a 10% discount on some supplies (excludes framing and scanning). The discount is 20% on the day of our meeting. Be sure to tell the Cashier that you are a RRAFA member. Please support Spokane Art Supply as they allow us to use their space free of charge.
NO EMAIL/INTERNET?: Due to the cost of postage and time involved to communicate by regular mail, it is very helpful if members without email pair up with someone who does have access. Ask them to help you be alerted to emails from RRAFA members. Also, feel free to call one of the Officers, Board, or Committee members if you have a specific question. A list is included in this packet.
MEETING RAFFLE: Each month a raffle basket is passed around. You may pay $1.00 per ticket or $5.00 for six raffle tickets. The prize: 50% of the dollars received go to the winner and 50% goes into the RRAFA Treasury and is used for RRAFA Community Outreach projects.
